Shaila Ramachandran, who is 12 years old, is a 6th grade student at Stoller Middle School
in Beaverton, OR. She has been learning Bharatanatyam since the age of 4 at the Anjali
School of Dance and has over 20 performances to her credit. Shaila has also given a 1
hour solo performance in India accompanied by some of the most notable musicians in
the field.  Besides being a talented dancer, she also learns carnatic vocal music from
Archana Ranjan. She enjoys reading, swimming, basketball and working on art projects.
Her aspiration to be a veterinarian was born out of her love for animals.  Shaila’s parents,
Anita & Mahendra Ramachandran, have instilled in her strong values of dedication, hard
work and a desire for excellence.

The 2 hour solo dance recital included eight elaborately choreographed items which
feature intricate footwork and graceful movements set to melodious and rhythmic Indian
classical music. Shaila will be accompanied by a live orchestra of accomplished artists:
Anita Menon (cymbals), Archana Ranjan (vocal), Mini  Jairaj (vocal), Subrahmanyam
Sudhakar (percussion), Shailaja Prasannan (veena - Indian stringed instrument), Anand
Rangarajan (violin) and Tejasvi Chakravarthy (flute).
