Anita Menon founded the
Anjali School of Dance in 1996
to provide training in ancient Indian
artform of Bharatanatyam to students in
the Greater Portland area.

There are over fifty students currently
under her tutelage at her studio in
Hillsboro. She directs them through a
rigorous process of learning the basic steps
and gestures to choreographing major
pieces building on the fundamentals. She
also provides instruction in the various
elements of stage performance and
production.

The Anjali School of Dance has presented
over 75 performances at festivals,
community events and school recitals
captivating audiences with their skillful
rendering of the art.

In 2002, the Anjali School of Dance
presented “Vishwa Shaanthi” a sold out
benefit performance featuring 25
performers.   

In  April 2003, the Anjali School Of Dance
presented its first
Bharatanatya arangetram
by Lavanya Karunakaran.

In October 2003, the school celebrated its
anniversary with a performance at the
Portland Community College auditorium,
featuring all its students.

In February 2004, the Anjali School Of
Dance presented its second
Bharatanatya arangetram
at the Performing Arts Center, PCC
Sylvania Campus.

In October 2004, over 50 students
performed a thematic presentation
"Rithu Bhedam - Seasons of Life"  which
celebrated the four stages of a woman's life.

In March 2005, the Anjali School Of
Dance presented its third Bharatanatya
arangetram of
Shaila Ramachandran.

In May 2006,
Kirtana Vedire, the fourth
student to graduate from the Anjali School
of Dance was presented.

With a creative and talented group of
students and a gifted instructor, the school
strives to preserve the rich heritage of
classical dance while presenting the form in
innovative ways.
